Antique Asian Silver Handpainted Trinket Box
You have discovered a beautiful little silver trinket box from an estate. The sides of the silver box have been etched in an ornate design all around. The well-fitting lid is inlaid with mother of pearl (abalone shell) which has been handpainted with two riders on horseback wielding swords. Looks like a toucan in the bottom left corner. I don't know exactly how old this piece is -- wish I did. I am familiar with the estate that it came from and I know the people did lots of traveling and had many quality pieces of jewelry and other trinkets such as this.
The box is 2 inches by 1.5 inches by .75 inches tall. It still has cotton inside. This could be used as a gift box for a special piece of jewelry, or it could be used for storing your own treasures. The box is in wonderful condition; but could use a little more elbow grease polishing it up -- unless of course, you like that slight patina of age that old silver gets. I personally think it is charming just the way it is.
This would be a great addition to your collection -- or would make a wonderful gift!
